The number of team members in a UAV design team can vary greatly, but the jobs that need to be done are pretty much the same.
- Captain/ Leader/ Project Manager
- Responsible for the whole design process
- Set deadlines and ensures the team works efficiently
- Combine and compiles team members’ work
- Coordinate every part of the project
- Technical Design
- Professional in aerodynamics
- Determine most of the parts in the UAV structure
- Continuously collaborate with 3D modeler and simulation engineer
- Continuously improve the design until an optimal solution comes up
- 3D modeling
- Use industrial 3D modeling software to create the UAV according to the design scheme and calculated data provided by the designer(s)
- Print the models
- (Wind tunnel) simulation
- Use professional wind tunnel simulation software to test the existed version of the UAV, and produce data, maps, and other results
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the UAV
- Avionics
- Compare and select existed hardware that is necessary for the operation of the UAV and its systems
- Consider the connection between different equipment and the distribution of the equipment on the UAV
- Business
- Complete the business case (go-to-market plan) of the UAV product, such as comparing with other transportation methods, evaluate operation and material costs, etc.
- Find sponsors for the team, and prepare materials to meet sponsors
- Brand design/ Aesthetics
- Render the 3D model using rendering software
- Contribute to the visualization of team culture
- Contribute to the recording and publicity of the team and the UAV
